Mari Beth McCarthy-Carstens

Founder/COO/Administrator

Mari Beth has been in the medical/healthcare field for more than 25 years, starting as an Insurance Billing Clerk, eventually being promoted to Assistant to Patient Accounts Manager.  After a brief stint as a stay- at-home mom, she entered the distribution arena with a special focus on orthopedic and podiatric supplies, administrating and overseeing all aspects of the business

Mari Beth founded Syzygy Medical to continue to supply, solve and serve medical professionals locally and across the country.  Her vision is to operate a company that is small enough to care, but large enough to meet the demands of the medical community. She enjoys working alongside her amazing employees, some of whom are family members, which is an added bonus!

She loves mentoring and helping staff develop their skills, gifts, and creative talents, which have become the backbone of the company.  She is looking forward to exciting opportunities that lie ahead and to grow the business, being the best that we can be at all levels, establishing and promoting relationships with customers, our community and our suppliers while doing it all in the highest levels of integrity and good old-fashioned joy!

Amanda Carstens

ClearNails Regional Sales Manager

Amanda Carstens was born and raised in Alton, IL. She obtained her BSN degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2016. Following graduation, she was employed as a registered staff nurse at Barnes Jewish Hospital in the Abdominal Transplant & Hepatobiliary Unit. Her medical experience also includes medical aesthetics & facial rejuvenation.

Amanda tragically suffered a T12 burst fracture injury in the summer of 2018. At the time of her accident, she was forced to step away from nursing while her back healed through non-operative treatment with bracing for the spine. Through this devastating experience, Amanda has developed a passion for orthopedics and learning about proper methods of bracing injuries.

Amanda joined SyzMed in January of 2019. Due to her trauma, Amanda believes she is stronger both spiritually and mentally more than ever and will continue to work on building her physical strength as she heals. Amanda is thrilled to be working with the SyzMed team and to be a part of their exciting future as a company.

Kaitlyn White

Customer and Accounts Manager

Kaitlyn is a graduate of Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville, IL and is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in Business Finance and Administration.

With more than five years’ experience in customer service, banking and management, Kaitlyn is well-equipped for the SyzMed team.  She is always learning new ideas and concepts in the medical supply industry as she furthers her education.

When Kaitlyn is not busy learning and working, she enjoys spending time with loved ones.

Amy Johnson

Office Manager

Amy Johnson is a graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, IL.

She attended cosmetology school from 2012-2013 but decided to venture forth into the business world instead. That decision allowed Amy’s special talents and abilities to shine.  She is willing to take on any challenge with composure and cheerfulness.

Amy ensures that the business office runs smoothly, bringing a positive, warm attitude with her every day.

She married her best friend, Ryan, and together they have three beautiful and amazing daughters, Khloe, Brinlee and the newest addition, Gracie.  This might explain why Amy is able to handle anything.

Lynzi Schaake

Customer Service Representative

Lynzi is a graduate of Lewis and Clark Community College with an associate degree in Applied Sciences and Business Technology.

Lynzi has several years’ experience with customer service and enjoys all aspects of working with clients.

When not in the office, Lynzi can be found volunteering at local animal shelters and rocking the dog-mom life.

Ryan McCarthy

Logistics Manager

Ryan has been an Alton area resident all of his life and in 2000 he joined with us as we were forming the beginning stages of our team. His knowledge of the logistical operations of our company as well as his expertise in all things regarding products and services we provide has been essential to our success. He is the “face” of SyzMed as he is in face-to-face contact with many of our customer accounts on an almost daily basis.

Having been with us since our inception, he jokingly describes himself as the “backbone of the company” which turns out to be true! He likes being part of a dynamic and enjoyable workplace and looks forward to the rewarding challenges ahead with SyzMed.

Sandy McCarthy

Special Projects and Compliance Manager

Sandy has spent her entire career in the telecommunications industry in positions such as Project Manager, Service Manager, Consultant and Trainer/Instructor.

After 38 years she retired from AT&T in 2009.  She has spent her time enjoying her family and other hobbies, and just plain relaxing!

She emerged from retirement recently to join SyzMed on a part-time basis and is definitely enjoying the stimulating experience of being part of an energetic and positive company.
